About Huanyu Academy
An intensive Mandarin Chinese academy built with modern web technology, open-source from day one.
Our Mission
We believe learning Chinese should feel like attending a real academy — not like using a gamified app. Huanyu Academy combines the structure of a private school (levels, curricula, assessments) with the flexibility of a digital platform (anytime, anywhere, adaptive). All content is aligned with the official HSK standards.
Open Source
The entire project is open-source under the MIT license. The educational content (vocabulary, grammar, readings) is maintained as a separate open-data repository, so it can be reviewed, corrected, and reused by the community. Contributions via pull request are welcome.
Technology
Built with Next.js 16 (App Router), TypeScript, Tailwind CSS 4, Zustand, Drizzle ORM, and Better Auth. PostgreSQL for the database. The front end is a progressive web app with offline support. No Firebase or external vendor lock-in.
